Our news from the last 12 months:

INTENSE KARTING!

October 2011 — Author: DC.

Eight of us descended upon Mr Karting in Leamington, and with their improved facilities, we were treated to a very intense session of 3x10minute reaces with all 8 of us in each race. On the tight, twisty circuit there was not a moment to relax as 8 karts on a 20 second lap meant you were rarely on clear track, and as a result we did manage to incur several red flags as karts had to be cleared and races re-started. The marshals did an excellent job though, and we all had an brilliant time, with Dave (bolstered by his own race boots, gloves and helmet!) winning two races and fastest lap for the overall honours, closely followed by Duncan and John, as Table showed what a competitive (and by the end of it, very knackered!) bunch we can be.
The evening was rounded off with post race discussions, and a slap up meal and drinks, at the nearby Leopard pub.

TEDDY ''TWO STEAKS''

September 2011 — Author: TMC.

Or was it three???

There was an excellent turnout at the Business Meeting last night at The Lazy Cow in Warwick.

After an enlightening video presentation from two young people who Warwick Round Table supported on their World Challenge in Brazil, we welcomed our newest recruit to Warwick as he was brought into the fold with the present of a rather fetching T Shirt.

Good luck Dave and welcome to Round Table

A NIGHT AT THE RACES

August 2011 — Author: TMC.

On a lovely summers evening, we got out our form guides and headed to Warwick Racecourse for an excellent evening of horse racing. There weren't many winners amongst us (although some managed to get into the VIP section somehow) but the evening was topped off by a live outdoor concert with Eliza Doolittle. Most of the older tablers hadn't heard of her, but us youngsters (and JC) sang along to all the hits. Both of them.

CYCLE TOUR OF WARWICK

July 2011 — Author: TMC.

This week we had an energetic event for a change as our Chairman organised a cycle route around Warwick, starting and finishing at The Moorings pub. Only a few members were up to the gruelling 7 mile ride with the rest joining us for some food and beers at the pub afterwards.

COMEDY AT THE CASTLE

July 2011 — Author: TMC.

On one of the driest days this summer, the Tablers got soaked whilst watching 'Oddsocks' perform an unusual version of Macbeth in the grounds of Warwick Castle. We all brought picnics (except Giles) and chairs to sit on (except Giles) and an umbrella (except Giles). However, JC went one better and brought fresh fish and chips! Ted just looked at his phone for most of the performance...

CLAY PIGEON SHOOT

June 2011 — Author: TMC.

The boys were at Wedgnock Adventure Sports for this event. A variety of clays were shot at and some were even hit! The best of the bunch was 'Sharp Eyed Shooter' Ted, who managed to hit an amazing 18 out of 20 clays.

Following this, we all went for a Pizza in Warwick. Apart from ted that is, who prefers a nice green salad.

FALCONRY

June 2011 — Author: TMC.

Last Tuesday's event was at Fir Tree Falconry in Warmington. There was an excellent display of different birds of prey all followed up by a beer and some grub.

TABLER IN WINNING RAFT TEAM!

June 2011 — Author: DC.

The Rotary Club annual Charity Raft Race from Leamington to Warwick was won this year by 'Team Bluebird' with Captain Dave from Warwick Round Table! Using an inovative design of raft, the team completed the 4-mile route, which included a weir, in just 1 hour 5 minutes, a whole 5 minutes ahead of their closest rivals. The team raised over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Care into the deal, and thank all those who supported them.

AGM

April 2011 — Author: TMC.

On Saturday the members of Warwick Round Table enjoyed their Annual General Meeting at Petit Gourmand in Kenilworth. A few beers, a few bottles of wine, a few reports and plenty of laughter made it a great event which saw Tim hand over the Chair to Allan.

JC very kindly presented Tim with his own bench carved with his name and WRT 's details as a momento of his year. An extremely thoughtful idea which goes to demonstrate the great bunch of guys who make up WRT .

ORDER IN THE COURT

March 2011 — Author: TMC.

The boys enjoyed a fantastic event last night when we were treated to a unique inside tour of Warwick Crown Court. The court closed last year which enabled a tour of the cells, the old 'dungeon', the Courts and the Judge's House. Thanks to John for organising this fascinating evening.

COMEDY NIGHT

March 2011 — Author: TMC.

The boys visited the Barnstomers at The Spa Centre on Tuesday and were entertained by some excellent comedians. Some tablers thought they were funnier than the professionals but were soon put in their place!

Following this we went for a curry at a new place in Leamington which I can't remember the name of but do remember it being very tasty despite not getting my naan bread!

STRIKE, STRIKE, STRIKE!

February 2011 — Author: TMC.

A few of us had a go at bowling on Tuesday evening with mixed results. Some of us managed to get three strikes in a row, and some didn't! It was a fun night though and was good preparation for the forthcoming area bowling competition.

INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS

February 2011 — Author: TMC.

Last Tuesday's business meeting at The Lazy Cow in Warwick saw two new members join Warwick Round Table. John and Duncan heard about Round Table through friends and the website and came along to the New Members Event last year. They attended four events before becoming prospective members where they had the opportunity to find out more about Round Table and whether it was for them. Thankfully they liked what they saw and were welcomed into table by all the current members. .

REAL TENNIS?

January 2011 — Author: TMC.

For those that are not aware, Leamington boasts the home of the oldest Real Tennis club in the world. This was one of the most energetic events on the Round Table calendar as we were taught the obscure rules of this ancient game. There was a surprising amount of talent amongst those who gave it a go although its fair to say that there is some way to go to master the game.

Following the tennis, everyone retired to Zizzis for some Italian food and some well earned large bottles of Peroni.

STAR CITY CINEMA

January 2011 — Author: TMC.

The first event of the new year was a trip to the cinema at Star City in Birmingham. However, this was no ordinary cinema as this was Gold Class seat which meant full leather electric recliners no less.
